Lifestyle Family Photography During an Afternoon at Home in Portland, Maine -

I arrived at Ashley & Terry’s home late one summer afternoon. Poppy was already outside with her own camera and they all welcomed me inside. They brought me on a mini tour of their space, and we found some nice light on the couch and in the kitchen by the record player. Just embracing what they like to do at home - reading books, (Poppy) climbing on the couch, playing music - we created photographs of their everyday. After a bit as the light was fading behind the neighbors homes, we moved outside. Between taking photographs, we just chatted. I provided very little direction (if any) during this session, just allowing Poppy do to what she wanted to. Climbing on the fence, running into her dad’s arms, or climbing on her mom, these all made the best photographs. And this session is a testament to the magic that can come from letting go of control, embracing your real life in your photographs, and trusting the process - no need to worry about posing or performing.
